Sony and TSMC Team Up to Improve Smartphone Cameras

Camera performance can make or break a flagship device. That’s why slot online and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) have established a joint venture – known as Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (AVSM) – to shape the future of mobile photography.

The companies aim to enable future phones take DSLR-quality photos with instant AI power, all while staying thin and flat.

Located in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, the AVSM hub will serve as the centre for developing and manufacturing next-generation image sensors specifically designed for mobile devices. The companies anticipate that volume production at the new facility will begin in 2029.

Sony and TSMC’s joint venture
The hub was first revealed with a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding in May 2026. Now, we know the name and the financial breakdown of the venture.

In addition, supply chain compromise offers attackers access to large organisations through smaller partners. Among those affected by third-party cyberattacks on suppliers, 31% reported delayed customer deliveries and reduced production.

Material shortages and supplier delays affected 23%. Logistics disruption, production halts and increased costs were reported by 8%.

A plus from these findings is cybersecurity assurance has become a business priority, with nearly one in four manufacturers asking suppliers to demonstrate cyber compliance. Mirroring this trend, 25% have been asked to provide assurance to their customers.

However, 71% of manufacturers do not have such requirements in place.
